BOTOX®
Smooth away frown lines for a more relaxed look

WHAT IS BOTOX® COSMETIC?
Botox is a purified protein that has been used therapeutically for over 16 years to treat a number of medical conditions. For cosmetic purposes, Botox relaxes overactive facial muscles that cause wrinkles.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Any healthy individual may be a good candidate. Botox is not appropriate for patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, and Lou Gehrig's disease.

WHAT CAN BOTOX TREAT?
Botox is especially effective for frown lines between the brows, wrinkles of the forehead, and crow's feet. Botox can also be used to soften vertical lines of the upper and lower lips and treat "bunny lines" - horizontal and vertical lines of the nose.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT LIKE?
Quick and minimally invasive, Botox is precisely injected just beneath the surface of the skin into the root cause of wrinkles. No anesthesia is required, although if you are extremely sensitive, an anesthetic cream or an ice pack may be applied prior to your treatment. Discomfort is minimal and there is no downtime afterwards.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
You may expect to see a difference within a few days, although improvement can continue for up to 2 weeks.

HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?
Typically, visible results may last up to 4 months. With repeated treatments, results may last even longer since the underlying root cause of the wrinkle - the overactive muscle - has been retrained to become less active.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Bruising, swelling, headache, and temporary eyelid droop have been reported nationally. At SkinCare Physicians & Surgeons, only highly experienced board-certified physicians and certified nurse practitioners administer Botox. Side effects are rare.

AESTHETIC INJECTABLES - HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT?

  • Botox® and Dysport® relax facial muscles - smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Dermal fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvederm®, and Sculptra® are used to restore lost volume and lift specific facial features - creating a youthful appearance.
  • Other facial injectables such as Sculptra® are naturally and gradually absorbed by the body, stimulating the formation of new collagen. These fillers restore volume and fullnes and are especially effective for treating shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds.
