EAR PIERCING
A simple and safe procedure when performed by a physician or certified nurse practitioner
WHAT IS THE SAFEST METHOD FOR EAR PIERCING?
There are many places to go for ear piercings - and there are several methods of piercing - many of which are not safe and can result in complications such as inflammation or infection. It is important to realize that Ear Piercing should always be performed by a physician or certified nurse practitioner, under hygienic conditions. This is the only way to ensure safety from complications. At SkinCare Physicians & Surgeons, a sterile ear piercer is used - a professional, simple and safe procedure.
EARLOBE REPAIR
Minimally invasive procedure for the repair of split or torn earlobes
WHAT IS EARLOBE REPAIR?
There is variation and complexity involved with Earlobe Repair - a procedure that reconstructs a torn or split opening of the earlobe. In many situations, the size, style and weight of an earring can significantly contribute to the stretching of the earlobe opening. Over time, the opening gradually enlarges - and can become partially or completely torn. Earlobe repair restores the natural contour of the earlobe.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Any healthy individual with no serious medical problems may be a good candidate.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE LIKE?
Performed under local anesthesia, Earlobe Repair can vary greatly depending on the deformity. In all methods, however, the skin lining is removed creating a fresh, new outer edge for reconstruction. Sutures are then carefully placed to complete the repair of the earlobe.
WILL THERE BE VISIBLE SCARS?
Incisions are closed with tiny stitches. With time, scars typically fade and may become almost imperceptible.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE REPAIR?
Antibiotic ointment is recommended in most cases. Sutures are removed 1 week after repair. Patients can expect some drainage from the wound.
HOW SOON CAN I WEAR EARRINGS?
All wounds take 6-12 months to completely heal. We strongly recommend waiting at least 6 months before re-piercing your ears.
