Liposculpture
NATURAL LOOKING CONTOURS AND THE ONLY WAY TO SPOT REDUCE

From Unsightly Bulges to Shapely Contours

If a healthy regimen of diet and exercise doesn’t seem to be working on your “problem areas”, tumescent liposculpture may be right for you. Liposculture is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery in the USA with more than a quarter of a million procedures performed last year alone. One of the gentlest and most effective techniques is tumescent liposculpture. It is an effective means of removing excess body fat, particularly in areas that require more aesthetic sculpting – with fewer skin irregularities, less bleeding, reduced bruising and a faster recovery.

What is Tumescent Liposculpture?

Liposculpture consists of removing pockets of fat beneath the skin’s surface by inserting a hollow steel tube, called a cannula, into the affected area. Fat is then removed from the body by attaching a powerful vacuum to the cannula, which allows Dr. Tse to work with localized areas. The tumescent technique involves injecting a rather large amount of anesthetic liquid into the excess fat being treated. This fluid injection causes the fat pockets to swell, thereby leaving a pathway between the excess fat and the muscle tissue. This enables the cannula to move with ease and precision through the treated area. This technique greatly reduces the swelling, pain, blood loss and bruising usually associated with traditional liposuction.

The tumescent method can be used on any area of the body and is especially effective in areas that require more detailed sculpting, such as the face, neck, ankles, arms and calves. A patient that has a large area of fat requiring treatment may also be considered a good candidate.

Dr. Tse performs liposculpture under local anesthesia to eliminate the risks associated with general anesthesia.

What Happens After Treatment?

The local anesthesia injected into the tissue remains for about 24 hours following the liposculpture procedure, greatly minimizing post-operative pain. After tumescent liposculpture, most patients are generally alert and able to function without nausea, grogginess and the washed out feeling associated with general anesthesia. In fact, patients are encouraged to walk immediately following surgery to enhance the healing process. Patients can usually return to a desk-type job within a few days. Physical exercise may be resumed three to seven days after the procedure.

Swelling and bruising are common in the recovery phase after liposculpture. Although these are common, most of the swelling or bruising is gone within 1 to 2 weeks following the procedure.

Patients will need to wear special compression garments (girdle) that keep the treated area compressed and tight. Most patients will need to wear these garments for one week after liposculpture. For long term results, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle with a program of exercise and optimal weight maintenance.
